Job a Good Father

I JOB, A GOOD FATHER·

Text: Job 1:1-5

Intro: The book of Job is an essential book.

It has to do with a man who went through some difficult times,

but still remained true to God.

A saved person lost everything, kept right on serving God,

and was given everything back even doubled in the end.

Very little is said about Job being a father

and yet a lot was said about his fatherhood.

Let us see why Job was a good father.

This book reveals the struggle in the life of a righteous man.

It is a little difficult to read and study.

I. JOB WAS A SAVED FATHER.

A. He was saved.

1. The Bible says he was perfect and upright.

2. He feared God and eschewed evil.

3. He trusted in God though he had lost everything and his health. Job 13:15

4. He knew his redeemer lived and would stand in the latter day up0r, the earth. Job 19:25

5. He valued the Lord's Word about daily food. Job 23:12

B. Saved men make better fathers.

1. Lost men can be good to their children. They can love their offspring.

They can provide the physical and material things of life.

2. Saved men have been enlightened and can and should provide more for their children.

3. We can desifl/b and help meet the spiritual needs of our children.

4. We can bring them to church and make sure they hear the truth of God's Word.

5. We can pray and witness to them about their personal need of salvation.

6. We can help them find hope in Jesus Christ. A hope that looks byond the grave.

II. JOB WAS A RIGHTEOUS FATHER.

A. He was righteous.

1. He is describe~ as perfect and upright. This speaks of his relationship to the Lord.

2. The word perfect does not mean Job was flawless or without sin.

Fathers know the pain of trying to raise their children right and not knowing if they have made the right decisions.

3. Job feared God. The word feared means he had respect unto God. He reverenced God.

4. Job also eschewed evil. He refrained from evil. He hated evil.

B. Righteous men make better fathers.

1. Even lost men can teach and train their children between right and wrong.

There is a difference between a code of decency and principles of righteousness.

2. Righteous fathers set the proper example before their children. Teaching by example is one of the greater ways of teaching.

3. Our children will become to some extent what we are.

They will still act, live, and look at things the way we do.

4. The best we can do is help them to have a right relationship with the Lord, reverence the Lord,

and refrain from evil.

5. Many young people learn to cheat, lie, steal, curse,

drink, take drugs, etc., from a father who has taught them by example.

III. JOB WAS A CONCERNED FATHER.

A. He was concerned.

1. Job had 10 children, 7 boys and 3 girls.

2. Job was very concerned about his children sinning.

Every father knows and has to deal with children sinning.

3. Job was concerned about his children cursing God in their hearts.

4. Job sent and sanctified his children. Job as a father acted as a priest for his children.

He offered burnt offerings for his children. This was his custom.

S. Young people get into a lot of trouble exploring life.

That is why they need concerned fathers.

B. Concerned men make better fathers.

1. Even lost men can be concerned about their children.

They can ~e concerned without wanting their children to have to have a right relationship with the Lord.

2. We are to train up a child in the way he should go. Proverbs 2:6

3. We are to bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the L~td. Ephesians 6:1-3

4. Concerned fathers will want to know where his children are. He~, Its bounds. He is trying to say, I care enough about yo to want you to do right and will try to prevent you fro doing wrong.

5. He want to know your friends, places you go, what you readJ movies you watch etc., because he cares.

IV. JOB WAS A plTIENT FATHER.

A. He was panent.

1. He lost a~lof his possessions. His living was gone.

2. He lost lis 10 children in a storm. V19

3. He lost is health. 2:5 His wife said, "Curse God and die." 4. Three so called friends came by to comfort him. 2: 11-13 5. In all Of/ his Job worshiped the Lord, did not sin, nor charged God foolishly. 1:20-22

B. Patient me, make better fathers.

1. Lost men can be patient in some ways. They can be patient tith their children.

2. The try~rg of our faith works patience. James 1:3 tribulations works patience and patience experience. Romansl5:3 11

3. A lack ofpati nee can destroy our witness. Our patience is tri d when we lose our living, lose loved ones and lose ur health.

4. We can say, d ,and act very unwisely, foolishly, and sinfully when e lack patience.

v. JOB WAS A TRUS ING FATHER.

A. He trusted God.

1. When he lost is children he worshiped God and blessed him. 1:20.

2. He recognize he came into the world naked and would leave the worl in the same way.

3. Job said, "Th ugh he slay me, yet will I trust in him ..." Job 13:15

4. Job esteemed he words of the Lord more than his necessary foo . Job 23:12 Faith is generated by the Lord's Word.

B. Trusting-men m ke better fathers.

1. Lost men can rust in some things, but they do not trust in God.

2. Without faith r trust we cannot please God. Hebrews 11:6 Faith is t e victory. I John 5:4

3. We are to tru the Lord with all of our hearts. Proverbs 3:5,6

4. We need to b examples of faith to our children. They need to see us do and hear us say things that manifest we are trustin the Lord.

5. We need to te ch our children to trust the Lord for salvation, thi gs we need, and in all circumstances.
