Jesus faulted the Pharisees for giving attention to small things

like tithing mint, dill, and cummin while ignoring the weightier matters of the law


Matthew 23.23 - - Luke 11.42.

"2 But woe unto you, Pharisees!
for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs,
and pass over judgment and the love of God:
these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone."


They were still under the law.

They were required to tithe.



Dill is a leafy plant, resembling parsley.

Dill was grown for its seeds, which were aromatic and used in cooking as a seasoning.

CUMMIN An herb of the carrot family (Cuminum cyminum L.) mentioned with dill.

Used in Bible times to season foods.

Isaiah portrayed the planting and threshing of cummin Isaiah 28.25-27
