Text Hebrews 11.30

Introduction:

A. Faith is believing God's promises and acting upon them
in obedience to His command.
B. We act in faith as regards most areas of life.
C. Yet our faith in God's promises is so small and weak.
D. We do well if we pray as did Jesus' disciples:
"Lord, increase our faith," Luke 17.5
E. This is a reference to Joshua and Israel's first military campaign in Canaan


I. JOSHUA, MOSES' MINISTER Exodus 24.13

A. He was a man "full of the spirit of wisdom," Deuteronomy 34.9
B. He was man of great faith.
1. First introduced in Exodus 17.9
a. He led Israel to victory in their first military
engagement after leaving Egypt.
b. He had faith to believe he could win in the name of the Lord.
2. He accompanied Moses into the mountain to receive the law.
3. He was faithful to Moses to the very end.
4. He ever tried to become the leader,
but was content to serve the great man, Moses.
C. Such fidelity usually qualifies a man for leadership.
1. The day came when Joshua did become the leader.
2. Notice his commission from the Lord, Joshua 1.1-9
3. Then notice Joshua's response, Joshua 1.10-18

II. JOSHUA'S FAITH IN CONQUERING

A. By faith, he declared they could overcome the enemies Numbers 14.6-9
B. His most celebrated victory is the overthrow of Jericho, Joshua 6
C. Notice how his faith was there demonstrated.
1. He obeyed the Lord and conducted the campaign as instructed
a. Marched once around the city daily for six days.
b. On the seventh day, marched around the city seven times
c. Then the walls fell down, after the people shouted
2. By no other means could he have expected to win
D. This was singular demonstration of his faith

III. JOSHUA'S FAITH CHALLENGED THE PEOPLE. Joshua 24.15

A. First, he reminded them of God's blessings upon them and heir fathers
B. Then, he challenged them to serve the Lord.
1. Called upon them to make a decided choice
2. It was a once for all choice
3. He challenged them not to delay, but choose, "Today.
C. He expressed his own choice, and no doubt this encourage others
to make a similar choice.

Conclusion:

A. God brought down the walls of Jericho in response to faith
B. God will destroy the barriers in the way of all who respond in faith
to His command.
C. Through faith, we can have victory over doubt,
worry and all other enemies to our Christian testimony
D. Read, "Faith Is The Victory," stanzas 1 and 4. ??
